About Tom Ford Prescription Glasses

Born in Austin Texas in 1961, Tom Ford has grown to become one of the most successful and influential fashion designers today. Having moved a lot during his early career years, the young Ford landed a job with the then-struggling Gucci in 1990 as the women’s ready-to-wear designer. Ford continued to move up in the company, and by 1993, he was in charge of designing a staggering eleven product lines from fragrances, advertising, store design, and prescription glasses, among others.

18-hour work days are not your usual cup of tea, but the energetic Ford made it seem like a breeze. His work ethic and explosive creativity saw him grow Gucci’s revenue up to about $4 billion by 1999, and to $10 billion when he left in 2004 to start his own label.

In 2006, he launched the Tom Ford line of menswear, eyewear, and other accessories. A year later, he opened the doors to his first brick and mortar retail store in New York. This coincided with the launch of his signature Tom Ford Menswear and Accessory Collection. The company has continued to grow tremendously by expanding into women’s and men’s fashion with watches, eyewear, fragrances, bags, and shoes.

Today, there are 64 physical stores owned by Tom Ford operating in areas such as New York, Milan, London, Tokyo, Las Vegas, Beirut, Dubai, Sydney, Russia, and Zurich.

An eye for detail

As you read about the man behind the brand, you will pick up on his desire for the utmost attention to detail. His passion for the best has made his products not just pieces but statements.

tom ford prescription glasses

Tom Ford prescription glasses are no different. There is deliberate attention to detail in every aspect of the construction. Some of the notable features which you can use to check whether your piece is genuine or not are:

1. The Tom Ford Etching on the lens

With each piece of Tom Ford prescription glasses, there is an etching on the top left corner of the left lens, written ‘TOM FORD.’ This etching is laser printed and has a noticeable texture. The quality of the etching itself is of high-quality and very clear.

2. The product retail box

With each purchase, you get the frame in a branded retail box. All have the ‘TOM FORD’ label written in the brand’s signature font. It has become common for some retailers to pack counterfeit glasses in genuine packaging. Make sure to verify that the actual glasses are authentic even if the packaging looks legit.

3. Label on the Retail Box

At the bottom of the packaging is a label with details of the manufacturer, details of the glasses as well as a barcode. Always check to confirm that the information included here matches with the order you made.

4. Information booklet

The information booklet that comes with these glasses gets printed on high-quality paper.

5. Authenticity card

Included in the packaging is an authenticity card (in an envelope) that should indicate your glasses are genuine. Again, this card and its envelope get made from high-quality paper.

6. Dust cloth and carrying case

Both the case and dust cloth have a high-quality feel and have the ‘TOM FORD’ logo on them. The logo itself will remain in place even as the cloth and case start wearing off.

7. Product detail on the left temple

On the inside of the left temple, there will be details of the model number and frame size info beginning with ‘TF.’ Check that these details match the glasses you purchased to help determine whether you have a genuine or a fake.

At the very end of the left temple of your prescription glasses is the ‘TOM FORD’ label molded on a metallic plate. The print of these letters is very clear, and the finish is superb with no signs of adhesives or gaps.

9. Serial number on newer models

Some of the latest prescription glasses have a serial number printed at the tip of the left temple. You should ensure this number matches the number of the model you purchased.

Untamed design

tom ford prescription glasses

As bold and daring as the founder himself are his eyewear designs. Tom Ford, the company, has stirred the global market with its designer eyeglasses and sunglasses. The innovation and rebel designs have attracted many famous celebrities to embrace the looks the company creates. Britney Spears, Halle Berry, Andy Samberg, Brad Pitt, and Howard Stern make up just a fraction of the endless list of celebrities that wear the label. Tom Ford was even Daniel Craig’s suit designer in his Bond movies – Skyfall, Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale.

Advertising at the core

Tracing back on Tom Ford’s roots we find that he played a big role in the advertising of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. This is one of the practices that the Tom Ford company does with unparalleled prowess.

The company’s advertising is particularly seductive and showing elements of indulgence and extravagance. As he was building his company, Tom Ford is recorded to have described his target customer as ‘international, cultures, well-traveled and possessing disposable income.’

Social media presence

On social media, the company is in constant engagement with its fans. From ready-to-wear accessories, bags, shoes, eyewear as well as season wear, there is something for everyone. They have a little over 88,000 followers on Twitter with well over 1.5 million likes on Facebook. On YouTube, the followership is slightly over 27,000. It is not hard to see why this brand is among the top worldwide.

Our Review of Tom Ford Prescription Glasses

tom ford prescription glasses

Tom Ford Frame Quality – 9/10

Frame quality goes a long way in telling you about the amount of effort the company put in. It also tells you of how much the company wants you to feel unique or above the crowd.

With Tom Ford prescription glasses both cases are true. The frames are made using high quality and durable acetate plastic. On other pieces, they are made using Monel which is covered in various high-quality metallic colors.

As always, Tom Ford has the signature “T” on the hinge and temple area for a classic finish to all their eyewear. For this, we give them full credit for their intricate frame designs.

Tom Ford Lens Quality – 8/10

The quality on all of Tom Ford’s prescription glasses is impressive. There is an option of glass or the lightweight polycarbonate plastic.

All Tom Ford prescription glasses lenses offer UV protection, have an anti-scratch as well as an anti-reflective coating. You also get a guarantee of 100% RX accuracy. Each piece has a “TOM FORD” etching on the left lens.

We were a little concerned by the fact that the company offers nothing particularly special on their lenses. They have standard feature and will not disappoint, but at the same time, they will not give you a performance edge with additional capabilities.

Tom Ford Style – 10/10

Frame and lens quality sums up to make the style of both eyeglasses and sunglasses. Tom Ford has been generous with their frame designs for both men and women. Whatever your style, you can never miss a pair that takes that style and puts it to a whole new level. Checking through their social media pages, watching their adverts and celebrities, even your office work mate, it is clear the company makes every wearer a statement.

Tom Ford Customer Service – 9/10

As far as customer service goes, there is a FAQ page on the company’s website. We were not happy that they did not have specific questions related to their eyewear. The products on their website do not have a ‘story’ as such, which might leave customers thinking they are just part of another mass-produced item.

On Amazon, customers have varied reactions to various eyeglasses and sunglasses. However, we concluded that most of the negative feedback came from people who had purchased counterfeit Tom Ford eyewear. Otherwise, those who got genuine pairs fell in love instantly.

Tom Ford Cost – 8.5/10

When it comes to cost, this brand is not the most affordable on the market. An average piece will cost you about $160. This does not mean that they are overpriced at the same time. Tom Ford has a rich history in separating their designs from the ordinary.

This simply means that whenever you choose to buy a pair, you agree with their culture and the detail for the ultimate perfection. What their price tag also means is that you get a professional lens cleaning kit as well as a 24-month warranty on their lens.

Further with Tom Ford Prescription Glasses

Overall Tom Ford continues its impressive momentum of empowering its wearers through innovative designs of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. Even though the eyewear section only makes up a fraction of the entire label, it still receives the required effort by the company to be able to stand out as one of the most loved brands worldwide.

Just like the founder, this brand is going places!
